What subscribers get
YouTube Premium includes ad-free viewing, background play, and offline downloads. The service also bundles access to YouTube Music.
- Ad-free videos
- Background play for audio and podcasts

Premium Lite launched about a year ago. It offers some perks, though not all videos are ad-free.

About a year ago, YouTube reported more than 125 million combined YouTube Premium and Music subscribers. The platform remains a dominant force in streaming video worldwide.
Wider streaming industry trend
Other services have also raised fees recently. Netflix increased plan prices by $1 to $2 in March.
Amazon raised the cost to remove ads on Prime Video by $2 per month. Spotify raised its core plan to $12.99 in January.
What this means for subscribers
