Belmont’s Sam Orme Joins Nebraska Basketball Team
In a significant move for the Nebraska Basketball team, Sam Orme from Belmont has officially committed to join the program. Standing at 6-foot-9, Orme brings valuable skills and experience as a forward.
Orme’s Background and College Career
Sam Orme has spent three seasons at Belmont, during which he redshirted in 2023-24. In his first active season, he played in 27 games, starting in nine, and averaged 9.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 21.2 minutes per game.
Last season marked a turning point for Orme, as he became a full-time starter. He improved his performance to 12.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while averaging 25.8 minutes on the court. His shooting stats were impressive, making 40.4% of his three-point attempts and shooting 70.3% inside the arc.
High School Performance
Before his tenure at Belmont, Orme played for Carmel High School in Indiana. As a senior, he averaged 18.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game, shooting at a notable 54% accuracy.
Reasons for Joining Nebraska
Orme expressed enthusiasm about joining the Huskers, noting the team’s strong chemistry and cohesive playing style. He highlighted this in an Instagram post announcing his commitment with the caption “New beginnings
.”
Impacts on the Nebraska Roster
Orme’s addition fills the role previously held by 61-game starter Berke Büyüktuncel, who recently entered the transfer portal. Other players like guard Quentin Rhymes and forward Justin Bolis have also left the program, alongside several others exhausting their eligibility.
Key Returning Players
- Braden Frager – The Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year, confirmed to return as a starter.
- Pryce Sandfort – A first-team All-Big Ten sharpshooter, recovering from surgery but expected to be a starter.
- Leo Curtis – At 7-foot-2, he is the only other big man with significant Husker experience.
Future Roster Changes
Nebraska currently has 10 countable players following Orme’s commitment but has five positions left to fill. They need to recruit a starting ball handler and another big man to meet their roster requirements.
The transfer portal remains open until April 21, giving Nebraska ample opportunity to enhance its roster further. The upcoming season looks promising with the potential of adding depth and talent through both transfers and high school recruits.
