Maude Apatow Seeks Genuine Connections with Fans

Maude Apatow is moving from acting into directing and producing. She discussed the shift during a recent feature photographed at the Apatow offices in L.A.

Early career and screen highlights

She made her screen debut at nine years old. Her first role was in the 2007 film Knocked Up, playing Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd’s daughter.

Since then, she has appeared in films such as Assassination Nation. On television, she is known for playing Lexi Howard on Euphoria.

New production company and directorial debut

Apatow launched Jewelbox Pictures with her close friend Olivia Rosenbloom. Their first project, Poetic License, is set for release later this year.

Poetic License, written by Raffi Donatich, stars her mother, Leslie Mann. Apatow calls Donatich a friend and credits collaboration for the project.

Creative philosophy

She described acting as a vulnerable craft that can feel out of one’s control. That experience led her to seek more creative agency behind the camera.

She finds fulfillment in building projects from scratch. Finding collaborators who challenge and inspire her remains central to her work.

Although she questions the larger importance of light comedies, she believes in their power to comfort audiences. Maude Apatow has said she aims to form genuine connections with fans.

On collaboration and control

Apatow emphasized problem-solving and team dynamics as sources of artistic joy. Directing gives her the chance to guide projects and realize her ideas.
