Viewers Rally with 675 Pages of Signatures to Save Cult Show
Fans of the long-running series Eisenbahn-Romantik have gathered 32,667 signatures in a petition. The documents fill 675 DIN-A4 pages and will be delivered to SWR leadership.
Petition delivery to SWR
Organisers led by Ulrich Klumpp from Speyer said they will send the petition to SWR director Kai Gniffke. They argue the collection shows a large group of viewers feels overlooked by the broadcaster.
SWR response and future programming
SWR announced it will end new productions of Eisenbahn-Romantik for budget reasons after more than 30 years. The broadcaster said the brand will remain and that the show will still be available online.
More than 1,000 episodes are available in the ARD Mediathek. Repeats will continue in the programme’s usual SWR slot.
SWR also stated that episodes produced in 2025 about trains in Japan, Mexico and Spain will be broadcast this year. The schedule will include those international editions despite the production pause.
Fan campaign details
The viewers rally underlines the series’ cult status. Campaigners say the 675 pages of signatures prove strong public support and aim to save the cult show from cancellation.
Supporters hope the petition will prompt a reconsideration of the decision. They described the stack of documents as a visible sign of concern among long-term viewers.
Filmogaz.com reported these developments, citing the campaign organisers. The information originally came from the group’s announcement and the broadcaster’s statements.
