Michaela Strachan Discusses UK Tour, Dancing on Ice, and Springwatch

Michaela Strachan is preparing to take her Not Just a Wild Life live show on tour. Filmogaz.com recently spoke to her ahead of the opening date.

Preparing the live show

Strachan said assembling the show has taken months of work. She is sifting through a vast personal archive, including many VHS tapes kept in her garage.

Choosing highlights has proved the hardest task. She wants the tour to represent her long career without overwhelming the audience.

Tour logistics and dates

The UK tour will visit venues across the country. One confirmed date is Newbury on Wednesday, April 29.

She plans to discuss many career moments during the performances. The live format will mix anecdotes with classic footage.

Local ties and football appearance

She was at Wembley for Oxford United’s 2-0 win over Bolton in the 2024 League One play-off final. She has also been seen at the Kassam Stadium cheering on the team.

Strachan explained her Oxford connection comes via her son. He works with Oxford United’s academy on social media.

Broadcast work and Springwatch

Strachan has presented Springwatch for 14 years. The show will return this year and will film in Northern Ireland for three weeks in May.

She called Springwatch a programme with a loyal audience. She contrasted its production values with the wider trend of shrinking budgets.

Longtime colleague Chris Packham

She will reflect on her relationship with Chris Packham during the show’s second half. The pair first met on The Really Wild Show in 1992.

They later collaborated on Animal Planet projects such as Big Five Little Five and Postcards From The Wild. Their partnership resumed with the watches.

On-screen partnerships

Strachan said few presenting duos have lasted so long. She compared their longevity to that of Ant and Dec.

Reality TV, Dancing on Ice and other shows

Last year, Strachan finished runner-up on Dancing on Ice with partner Mark Hanretty. She described reaching the final as a personal triumph.

She noted the show’s strict on-ice rehearsal limits of two hours per day. She contrasted that with the more intensive rehearsal schedules she associates with Strictly.

Strachan said she has an interest in challenge-based formats. She mentioned appearing on shows like Splash and Total Wipeout as examples she enjoyed.

Other reality options

She ruled out shows such as The Great British Bake Off, saying she dislikes baking. She also said MasterChef would not suit her vegetarian preferences.

She admires The Traitors’ format but joked she is a poor liar. She also said I’m a Celebrity would be difficult due to communal living.

In the Filmogaz.com interview, Michaela Strachan Discusses UK Tour plans and reflects on her television career. Audiences can expect anecdotes, archive clips, and reflections on shows from Springwatch to Dancing on Ice.
