BYD Unveils Innovative Flagship SUV, Leading China’s EV Market
BYD plans to unveil the Sealion 08 SUV from its Ocean Network range at the Beijing Auto Show this April. The model will serve as the lineup’s flagship and follows its first reveal at BYD’s Ocean Day last December.
Design and dimensions
The Sealion 08 adopts BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics design language. It carries the familiar Ocean Network lighting signature and hidden door handles.
The SUV measures over 5,000 mm long. Its wheelbase exceeds 3,000 mm and it is expected to offer three-row seating. A roof-mounted lidar unit will be fitted.
Powertrain options
Buyers will get both DM-i plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants. The electric version will use BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery.
Range and performance
The electric Sealion 08 could deliver a pure-electric range beyond 1,000 kilometers. An all-wheel-drive version is projected to exceed 480 kW, or about 644 hp.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is expected in under five seconds for the high-performance variant.
Charging technology
The second-generation Blade Battery will be paired with flash charging technology. That enables very rapid replenishment of driving range.

Timing and market positioning
The Sealion 08 was initially slated for release in the first quarter of this year. Its formal auto show debut now comes in April.
