Former Steelers RB Struggles in UFL Debut
Benny Snell, the former Steelers RB, signed with the Louisville Kings in January. His first two UFL appearances produced limited results.
Slow UFL start
In the season opener on March 27, Louisville fell 15-13 to the Birmingham Stallions. Snell rushed five times for 12 yards and did not record a reception.
On April 4, the Kings lost 19-9 to the Orlando Storm. Snell ran six times for four yards and caught two passes for 28 yards.
NFL and college résumé
Snell was a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He starred at the University of Kentucky from 2016 to 2018.
At Kentucky he totaled 4,089 yards from scrimmage and 48 touchdowns. He set the program record for career rushing yards.
Pro career summary
As a rookie with Pittsburgh, Snell backed up James Conner. He handled 108 carries in 2019, gaining 426 yards and scoring twice.
In 2020 he played all 16 games. That season produced 368 rushing yards on 111 carries and four touchdowns.
After the Steelers drafted Najee Harris, Snell’s role shrank. Across 2021 and 2022 he had 56 carries for 188 yards and one score, with 152 offensive snaps total.
Pittsburgh did not re-sign him after his rookie deal expired. He joined the Detroit Lions in August 2023 but was cut at final roster reductions.
