Pitlochry Festival Theatre Celebrates 75 Years with Anniversary Appeal
Pitlochry Festival Theatre will host two special fundraising evenings featuring Alan Cumming in conversation with Sam Heughan and Ewan McGregor. The events support the company’s 75th anniversary fundraising effort and aim to engage audiences with the theatre’s future plans.
Event schedule and highlights
Sam Heughan will appear with Alan Cumming on Sunday 26 July at 7.30pm. The Pitlochry Festival Theatre Young Company will open that evening with a short extract.
Ewan McGregor will take part in conversation with Cumming on Wednesday 29 July at 7.30pm. Both evenings will include career reflections and behind-the-scenes anecdotes.
About the guests
Sam Heughan is best known for his role as Jamie in the television series Outlander. He is a long-time advocate for youth theatre and serves as Patron of Youth Theatre Arts Scotland.
Ewan McGregor rose to prominence with Trainspotting. His film credits include Star Wars, Moulin Rouge and Black Hawk Down.
Appeal objectives and targets
The theatre is marking 75 years and has launched an Anniversary Appeal to fund its next phase. The appeal has three core aims: support live theatre in the anniversary year, commission bold new writing and nurture fresh creative talent, and expand engagement with schools, young people, and communities.
The stated fundraising target is £500,000 to be raised by the end of 2026. The organisation also plans to double its number of Patrons and Members during this period.
Leadership comment and support
Artistic Director Alan Cumming said he welcomed the support of both actors. He expressed hope they might return to take part in future productions and noted how these In Conversation evenings help sustain the theatre.

Priority bookings for Patrons and Members went on sale from Thursday 2 April at 12pm. General sale began Thursday 16 April at 10am.
