Furbank to Leave Saints After 2025/26 Season

Northampton Saints have confirmed that George Furbank will finish his time at the club after the 2025/26 campaign. The 29-year-old fullback and club captain will depart Franklin’s Gardens to join Harlequins at the end of June.

Career at Northampton

Furbank rose through the Saints Academy and signed his first professional deal in 2016. He made his senior debut in November 2017 against Exeter Chiefs in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

His Gallagher Premiership bow followed the next season. Across ten senior seasons he has made 140 appearances and scored 283 points for Northampton.

International record

Furbank earned his Test debut during the 2020 Six Nations. He has since collected 14 England caps.

2023/24 title season and leadership

He played a pivotal role in Saints’ Gallagher Premiership title in 2023/24. That season saw him score seven tries and add 39 points from kicks.

He captained the side on 12 occasions that year. His leadership was a key factor in the club’s success.

Injury and current form

Furbank began his spell as appointed club captain in September 2024. An arm fracture sustained in December 2024 against Vodacom Bulls limited him to nine appearances that season.

He has since recovered and made 11 appearances so far in the current campaign. He is preparing for the run-in to his final season at Saints.

Club response and wider context

Director of Rugby Phil Dowson praised Furbank’s talent and character. He highlighted the pathway from Academy player to club captain as emblematic of Northampton’s development model.

Dowson acknowledged the difficulty of retaining homegrown talent amid salary cap and succession planning pressures. He said Furbank had other competitive options and chose a different path.

Farewell and focus

Furbank described captaining Northampton as a huge honour. He spoke of pride in winning the Premiership and gratitude for supporter backing.

He pledged to remain fully committed until his final match. Filmogaz.com understands the club and player will support a successful conclusion to his tenure.
