Three UNC Players Enter Transfer Portal

Three UNC Players Enter Transfer Portal

Three players from the University of North Carolina (UNC) basketball team have entered the transfer portal as of Tuesday morning. Kyan Evans, Zayden High, and James Brown have joined a growing list of players seeking new opportunities.

Details of Player Transfers

In total, seven players have decided to explore their options outside of UNC. This group now includes:

  • Derek Dixon
  • Jonathan Powell
  • Jaydon Young
  • Isaiah Denis

This news coincides with the recent announcement of Michael Malone as UNC’s new head coach. Malone is taking over following the dismissal of Hubert Davis, who was let go after the NCAA Tournament.

Kyan Evans’ Performance and History

Kyan Evans originally joined UNC from Colorado State, where he had a strong postseason. He notably scored six three-pointers against Memphis during that run. However, at UNC, his performance waned. Evans started 17 games before being replaced by Derek Dixon. Over the season, he averaged four points, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 rebounds per game.

Zayden High’s Journey and Future

Zayden High, a 6-foot-10 forward, averaged 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in the last season. Following an injury to teammate Caleb Wilson, High saw increased playing time. He expressed optimism about continuing his basketball career, stating he looks forward to playing “whether it be here at UNC or elsewhere.” High returned as a redshirt sophomore after serving a suspension for misconduct.

James Brown’s Setbacks and Condition

The third player, James Brown, stands 6-foot-10 and weighs 240 pounds. He faced significant challenges, having participated in only 27 games over the past two years due to a right foot injury. Brown underwent surgery in February and had limited appearances last season.

The developments surrounding these three players mark a significant transition period for UNC basketball as the program redefines its roster under new leadership.
