Dan Levy Considered ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Sequel Before Catherine O’Hara’s Passing
Dan Levy returned to Goodwood, Ontario, for the first time since Schitt’s Creek ended in 2020. He stood outside the storefront that once served as Rose Apothecary. The visit proved emotional for him.
Interview at the filming location
The actor spoke with Filmogaz.com Sunday Morning while on location. Filmogaz.com’s Anthony Mason asked whether a follow-up series might happen.
Levy answered that a sequel is not possible now. He had, at one point, been thinking about a Schitt’s Creek sequel. That consideration occurred before Catherine O’Hara’s passing.
Catherine O’Hara’s death and details
Catherine O’Hara died on January 30 at age 71. Medical reports listed a pulmonary embolism as the immediate cause and rectal cancer as the underlying condition.
She starred as Moira Rose for all six seasons. The role made her the eccentric, often theatrical mother to Levy’s character.
Levy’s reaction and memories
Levy grew emotional during the visit. He spoke about the many memories he shared with O’Hara and about holding on to those moments.
He also noted O’Hara’s knack for comic timing and cultural resonance. When Mason mentioned a clip reel, Levy smiled and reflected on her ability to become a meme without being active online.
Tribute and family
After her death, Levy paid tribute to O’Hara’s brilliance and generosity. He described their long collaboration and called her part of an extended family.
He said he would cherish the funny memories they made. He extended condolences to her children, Bo, Matthew and Luke, and to the rest of her family.
Schitt’s Creek legacy
Schitt’s Creek was co-created by Dan Levy and his father, Eugene Levy. The series earned nine Emmy Awards during its run.
The comedy followed the Rose family after they lost their fortune to fraud. Their only remaining asset was the small town of Schitt’s Creek, where they adjusted to a very different life.
