Isaiah Crane Transfers to Montana State, Appreciates Helena Community
Isaiah Crane has committed to Montana State after a standout run at Carroll College in Helena. The 6-foot guard announced the move this week.
Performance and honors
Crane was named the Frontier Conference player of the year. He averaged 19.6 points per game while shooting 54.3 percent overall.
He hit 50 percent of his 3-pointers. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
Collegiate timeline
Crane joined the Fighting Saints in 2023 after relocating from Portland, Oregon. He redshirted his first season and earned Frontier freshman of the year honors in 2024-25.
During the 2025-26 season, Carroll finished 20-10 overall and 17-5 in conference play. The Saints fell in the conference semifinals and lost a first-round NAIA game to Wayland Baptist.
Transfer process and recruitment
Crane entered the NCAA transfer portal on March 21. He posted on social media that he received an offer from Montana State on March 24.
According to his father, more than 40 Division I programs showed interest after he entered the portal. Crane retains two years of eligibility.

Crane said he wanted a destination that would aid his growth and long-term goals. He believes Montana State provides a strong opportunity to develop and contribute.
Remarks and community ties
Speaking via video call, Crane repeatedly thanked Carroll College and local supporters. He said the town welcomed him and made him feel at home.

Montana State outlook
The Bobcats went 18-14 in 2025-26 and finished 12-6 in Big Sky play. They earned the No. 2 seed but lost to Idaho in the conference quarterfinals.
Montana State announced on March 27 that every eligible player from that squad will return for 2026-27. Crane will join a roster with continuity and experience.
