Cleveland Tax Filing: Essential Insights for Local Residents
The City of Cleveland has stepped up outreach this tax season after surprise municipal audit notices hit some residents last fall. Filmogaz.com’s Abbey Marshall spoke with Danielle Clark, the city’s income tax administrator, to clarify filing rules and options.
Who must file
Residents must file local income tax if they live in the city. The same applies if they work or do business in Cleveland. Many taxpayers mistakenly assume federal filing covers local obligations.
Filing options and office hours
The tax office is located at 205 W. St. Clair Ave., Cleveland. Extended weekday hours run 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the tax filing deadline.
- Walk-in service is available Saturday, April 11, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.
- Auditors are on hand to prepare local returns in person.
- Taxpayers may mail completed forms or use the office e-file portal.
- For payment questions, call 216-664-2070 for assistance.
Electronic filing
E-file was added to better serve changing demographics. Younger residents moving into the city prefer online filing. The e-file system is relatively new to the Central Collection Agency.
Missed deadlines, notices and audits
If taxpayers miss April 15, they should still contact the office. Staff can help with filing late returns or responding to audit notices. Late fees and penalties may apply, but the office aims to work with every filer.
Outreach and next steps
The administration acknowledged past gaps in public education. Current efforts focus on informing local residents and businesses about filing requirements. Residents are encouraged to visit the office, call, or use e-file before the April 15 deadline.
