Migael Shines on Day Two Comeback
Migael Pretorius made an immediate impact after rejoining Somerset for a short spell. He led the attack on day two at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton.
Somerset batting
The home side resumed on 292 for six. Jack Leach struck Olly Stone to the boundary to bring up Somerset’s 300 and a second batting point.
Leach fell soon after for 11, edging to short cover. Craig Overton and Pretorius added 22 for the eighth wicket.
Pretorius was bowled by Dillon Pennington for 11. Overton reached his 20th first-class half century for Somerset. He achieved the milestone from 71 balls with nine fours.
Alfie Ogborne was out for two after a misjudged delivery. Jake Ball was then caught at third slip off Pennington as the innings finished on 347. Pennington finished with five for 65 from 26.5 overs.
Nottinghamshire reply
Nottinghamshire reached 34 for no loss by lunch, courtesy of openers Ben Slater and Haseeb Hameed. Pretorius was introduced after the break and struck quickly.
He removed Slater for 30 with a ball that nipped back into off stump. Hameed followed for 33, taken low at cover by Tom Lammonby, giving Pretorius his second scalp.
The visitors reached 100 in the 32nd over, but rain forced an early tea at 114. After the interval Joe Clarke and Freddie McCann put on fifty for the third wicket.
Pretorius impact and later stoppages
Pretorius trapped McCann for 31 at 128 for three, edging to first slip. Play was repeatedly interrupted by bad light and rain throughout the afternoon.
When play resumed just before 5:15pm, Clarke reached fifty from 99 balls. Notts moved to 200 after 60 overs, and Jack Haynes also recorded a fifty from 76 deliveries.
Bad light ended play shortly after 6pm. Nottinghamshire closed on 218 for three, still 129 runs behind Somerset.
