Fire Claims Two Pets in Iowa City on Friday Night
A late-night fire struck a condominium complex on Iowa City’s east side. Two pets were killed, but no residents were hurt.
Iowa City Fire Department received a call at about 11:10 p.m. The caller reported a blaze in the building’s basement on Friday night.
Response and containment
Firefighters arrived quickly and brought the blaze under control in roughly 15 minutes. Crews worked to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent units.
Damage and displacement
The fire damaged two condominium units and left four people displaced. Officials estimate property losses at about $80,000.
The loss of two pets was confirmed by fire personnel on scene.
