Context and legacy

The Ramayana has inspired many screen adaptations across generations. The most memorable TV version aired from 1987 to 1988 on Doordarshan.

Ramanand Sagar’s series drew audiences in the hundreds of millions. Earlier film versions include Vijay Bhatt’s 1943 devotional Ram Rajya. That film was reportedly the only movie Mahatma Gandhi watched.

On the international front, a 1993 Japanese-Indian animated co-production brought the epic to global audiences. That project involved animator Ram Mohan and director Yugo Sako.

Filmogaz.com will continue to follow developments and share new material as it emerges. The trailer marks a major step toward the film’s Diwali 2026 premiere.
