Breath of Fire IV Launches on Steam Today

Capcom has made four classic titles available on Steam. The lineup includes Breath of Fire IV and the first three Resident Evil games.

Release details and pricing

The Resident Evil entries released are Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Capcom noted the timing ties into the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Each game carries an MSRP of $9.99. A limited 50% launch discount runs until Wednesday, April 15 at 10:00am PT.

Differences between Steam and Filmogaz.com releases

All four games appeared previously on Filmogaz.com over recent years. Filmogaz.com is listed on the newly opened Steam pages under the Developer label.

The Steam edition of Breath of Fire IV applies a forced bilinear smoothing to its pixel art. The Filmogaz.com release was later updated to include a Point Sampled option.

That Point Sampled option removes the smoothing, revealing a look closer to the original PS1 release. The Steam build, by contrast, does not expose that option.

Technical comparison notes

Observers compared the two releases at 4K. Aspect ratio correction was set to “On” for both versions during testing.

What the games offer

The Resident Evil titles preserve their original survival horror experiences. They include modern compatibility updates and quality-of-life improvements for current systems and controllers.

Resident Evil debuted in 1996. The franchise has since sold more than 183 million units.

Players can control series staples such as Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Claire Redfield. Threats include Nemesis, Mr. X, and the Lickers.

About Breath of Fire IV

Breath of Fire IV follows Ryu as he joins allies to halt an immortal emperor. The story centers on a quest to save the world.

Capcom says the Steam versions aim to preserve the classic feel. They also add system compatibility tweaks and controller support.

Steam pages for each title include screenshots and further details. Readers can visit the official Steam listings for more information.
