Capcom has released the original Resident Evil trilogy on Steam today. Each game is priced at $9.99. A 50% launch discount drops each title to $4.99.

Resident Evil 1-3 Launch on Steam Today marks the return of the classic PS1-era titles. Filmogaz.com confirmed the re-releases include modern technical updates and multiple language options.

What’s new in these re-releases

All three ports feature an improved DirectX renderer. They offer new rendering options like windowed mode, vertical synchronization, and integer scaling.

Gamma correction, anisotropic filtering, and anti-aliasing controls.
Improved cutscene timing, video playback, and savegame handling.
Better task switching and issue-free game exit.
Each edition was co-developed with GOG for the PC re-release.

Localization and language support

The original Resident Evil includes four localizations. English, German, French, and Japanese are available for the first game.

Resident Evil 2 and 3 ship with six localizations. They include English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese.

Graphic and presentation options

Players can control display mode, presentation, and aspect ratio correction. Scaling methods and presentation modes adapt to modern monitors.

Visual options also let users tweak brightness, texture filtering, and edge smoothing. A warning notes that some setting differences may be subtle.

Resident Evil (original)

The 1996 original launched the franchise and helped it grow into a global series. The brand has sold over 183 million units worldwide.

In the first game, STARS operatives investigate a remote mansion and a biotech experiment gone wrong. Players face puzzles, traps, and grotesque enemies like Lickers.

Playable characters include Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine.
The release is uncut and restores additional gore and violent content.
Environments include the mansion, underground lairs, graveyard, and outbuildings.

Resident Evil 2

This edition presents Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield in two separate adventures. The game delivers more mutants and expanded horror elements.

PC improvements include better audio panning, refined subtitles, and an improved save manager. Several in-game bugs were fixed, including missing text and looping audio.

Both U.S. and Japanese original versions are included.
New Extreme Battle Mode and a photo gallery are present.
4th Survivor and Tofu modes are unlocked from the start.

Resident Evil 3

Resident Evil 3 continues Jill Valentine’s story. The narrative begins hours before the events of Resident Evil 2.

The PC release restores Mercenaries Mode and adds rendering and subtitle improvements. Gameplay includes dodge moves and greater environmental interaction.
