Ireland Boosts Social Welfare: Thousands to Receive Early Payment This Week
Thousands of social welfare recipients across Ireland will receive early payments this week because of the Easter bank holiday. Payments originally scheduled for Monday, April 6 are being brought forward to avoid delays.
Which payments are affected
A range of social welfare payments due on April 6 will arrive early. Child Benefit, normally paid on Tuesday, April 7, is also expected to be issued ahead of schedule.
New payment dates
Payments due on Easter Monday are likely to land on Friday, April 3 or Saturday, April 4. This change ensures recipients do not face late payments while banks and offices are closed.
Why the change and wider supports
The early disbursements form part of broader moves as Ireland boosts social welfare to ease household costs. The Government approved a €250 million support package to help families.
The package includes cuts to excise duty, alterations to the diesel rebate scheme, and an extension of the Fuel Allowance. Combined measures are expected to reduce diesel costs by 22 cents and petrol by 17 cents.
Fuel Allowance details
The Fuel Allowance will be extended by four weeks. Around 470,000 households will receive an extra €38 per week for that period.
That adds up to €152 in extra support for eligible households.
Practical information for recipients
Banks, post offices and Intreo centres will be closed on Easter Monday, April 6. Payment schedules are set to return to normal after the Easter weekend.
As a result, thousands will receive early payment this week to avoid any disruption. Filmogaz.com reported these arrangements to help claimants plan ahead.
