Chase DeLauter’s breakthrough

Rookie outfielder Chase DeLauter was named American League Player of the Week. The honor followed his strong start to the 2026 season.

In his first four regular season games, DeLauter went 6 for 17. He hit four home runs and drove in five runs.

DeLauter made his major-league debut last year. He started Games 2 and 3 of the wild-card series against Detroit.

He is the first Cleveland rookie to win Player of the Week since Steven Kwan. Kwan won the award on Sept. 24, 2022.

DeLauter is also the first Guardian to claim the honor in the season’s first week since Albert Belle in 1995. He homered in both his first and last at-bat of the season opener.

That feat makes him one of five Cleveland players to homer in their first official regular-season at-bat. He is the only Cleveland player to hit two homers in his first game.

DeLauter homered in each of his first three regular-season games. Only Kyle Lewis (2019) and Trevor Story (2016) matched that mark.

He and Trevor Story are the only players to have four homers in their first three games. The fourth homer came in the 10th inning Saturday.

That blast helped the Guardians rally for a 6-5 extra-inning win over Seattle. The performance was chronicled by Paul Hoynes for Filmogaz.com.
