Hezbollah-Inspired Attack on Temple Israel Targeted West Bloomfield Jewish Community

Evidence and official assessment

FBI Detroit Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Runyan said investigators found clear indicators of extremist motivation. She described searches and preparatory actions that pointed to a Hezbollah-inspired attack.

Authorities concluded the suspect researched Jewish targets across Metro Detroit, including Temple Israel. The investigation shows the attack was planned and targeted.

Online activity and preparations

Investigators recovered internet searches the suspect conducted. Those queries included terms identifying large Israeli gatherings and Orthodox synagogues.

  • Searches for “the largest gathering of Israelis in Michigan,” “Orthodox Synagogues,” and “Israelis near me.”
  • Final deleted search asking “What time is lunch at Temple Israel.”
  • Creation of a Facebook photo album titled “Vengeance” the day before the attack.

Weapons and materials acquired

Evidence shows the attacker purchased an AR-style rifle, ammunition, and fireworks. He also bought many water tanks and repeatedly filled them with gasoline.

On the day of the assault, he sat in the temple parking lot and maintained contact with a relative overseas. Roughly ten minutes before beginning the attack, he sent two videos in Arabic to his sister.

Statements recorded and intent

In the videos, the suspect declared he had booby-trapped his vehicle. He said he intended to enter the building and shoot occupants, aiming to kill as many as possible.

Those recordings referenced the size of the gathering at the synagogue and framed the assault as targeting Israelis in Michigan.

Prosecution and terrorism allegations

U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon said the available evidence supports terrorism-related charges. He added prosecutors will show the attacker provided material support to a terrorist organization.

Family connections and verification

Israeli military officials reported the attacker’s brother died in a Lebanese airstrike and described him as a Hezbollah leader. The FBI stated it has not independently verified that claim.

The investigation remains active. Filmogaz.com will continue to report developments related to this Hezbollah-inspired attack, Temple Israel, West Bloomfield, and the local Jewish community.
