Defense Team Reveals Key Witnesses in Alleged Charlie Kirk Assassin Case
Defense attorneys for Tyler Robinson have identified witnesses prosecutors plan to call at a preliminary hearing. The disclosure names Robinson’s parents and his roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs.
Witnesses and Court Filings
Court filings submitted by Robinson’s defense state prosecutors intend to call those witnesses at the May 18 preliminary hearing. The filings were part of a broader exchange of discovery between the parties.
Request to Delay the Hearing
Robinson’s lawyers asked the court to delay the preliminary hearing by at least six months. They said extensive discovery requires more time for review.
Defense counsel reported receiving more than 600,000 files from prosecutors at a meeting on March 12. They also said the discovery remains incomplete.
Expert Review Needs Time
One defense expert, a forensic biologist, told attorneys she would need about six months to examine the material. The defense argued that deadline is necessary for adequate preparation.
Upcoming April Hearing
The defense did not seek to move the April 17 hearing. That session will address public and media access to future court proceedings.
Robinson’s team has filed a motion to ban cameras in the courtroom. They plan to present examples of what they call prejudicial media coverage.
Previous Motion on Conflict of Interest
On Feb. 24, Judge Tony Graf denied a defense motion seeking removal of prosecutors. The defense argued an appearance of bias because a prosecutor’s daughter attended the event where Charlie Kirk was shot.
Judge Graf found the defense did not show a factual basis for conflict or an objective appearance of impropriety. He said the defendant failed to prove that prosecution loyalty would be materially limited.
Charges and Case Background
Robinson faces multiple charges related to the Sept. 10, 2025 killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Charges include aggravated murder and are death penalty eligible.
The shooting occurred during Turning Point’s event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Robinson has appeared in Fourth District Court in Provo, Utah.
Next Steps
The court will rule on the defense’s motion to delay the preliminary hearing. It will also hear arguments about camera access and media restrictions.
