Diesel Prices Surge by 50p on Isle of Man

Diesel prices jumped sharply on the Isle of Man this week. Some forecourts ran dry and motorists faced queues.

Price rise and local impact

Average diesel now stands at 185.9p per litre across the island. The rise was around 50p per litre in many areas.

Several garages reported empty diesel pumps over the weekend. Some retailers limited purchases to £20 per customer.

Supply disruption and deliveries

An oil tanker had been scheduled to arrive in Peel on 27 March. Bad weather forced it to shelter off Port Soderick instead.

A fresh delivery reached the island on Monday 30 March. One supplier had asked residents to avoid refuelling until that load arrived.

Motorist behaviour

Queues formed as drivers reacted to the shortages. Authorities urged the public not to panic buy or stockpile fuel.

Political response

Chief Minister Alfred Cannan warned the island would face “significant” price increases. He linked the pressure to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Cannan will be questioned in the House of Keys on Tuesday about contingency plans for future shortages.
