Asif Ali Considers International Cricket Comeback
Former Pakistan middle-order batter Asif Ali has signalled he could undo his international retirement. He stressed, however, that his immediate focus is the Pakistan Super League 11, which begins on March 26.
Asif made the comments at a Lahore Qalandars training session. He spoke briefly with reporters on the sidelines in Lahore.
Availability for Pakistan
Asif said he remains available if the national team needs him. He cited the returns of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 as examples.
The veteran added that his priority is to perform in the PSL. Asif Ali Considers International Cricket Comeback, he noted, but the PSL comes first.
Retirement and career record
He called time on his international career in September last year. He also said he will continue playing domestic and franchise cricket worldwide.
Asif represented Pakistan in 21 ODIs and 58 T20Is. He is 34 years old and remains committed to professional cricket while fit.
Role with Lahore Qalandars
Asif aims to help Lahore Qalandars retain their title. He said the team’s target is the same as before: to be champions again.
Known for his finishing skills, he said he will bat wherever the team needs him. He added he will be happy with any batting position assigned to him.
As a note from his past, Asif posed with the Player of the Match trophy after Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 game against Afghanistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 29, 2021.
