Mets to Celebrate Legend with 2026 Uniform Tribute Patch
The New York Mets will wear a memorial patch reading “Davey” on their uniforms throughout 2026. Davey Johnson died Sept. 5, 2025, at age 82.
Johnson’s legacy
He remains the franchise’s winningest manager with 595 victories. His .588 winning percentage is highest among Mets managers. He is widely regarded as a Mets legend.
He managed from 1984 through 1990, averaging more than 95 wins per season. His most famous season came in 1986, when the team won a franchise-record 108 regular season games and the World Series.
Patch and uniform details
The memorial patch will appear on the sleeve of both home and road jerseys. Team officials called it a simple uniform tribute patch for the 2026 season.
Opening Day ceremony
Johnson’s family will take part in the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day at Citi Field. The date is March 26, when the Mets meet Pittsburgh.
His widow, Susan, will escort stepson Jeremiah Allen and grandson Kai Casebolt to the mound. Mets Hall of Famers Darryl Strawberry and Mookie Wilson will catch the pitch.

Owners Steve and Alex Cohen praised Johnson’s leadership and care for players. They said he led with quiet confidence and inspired many team greats.
