Ranveer Singh to Apologize for ‘Kantara’ Mimicry at Chamundi Hill

Ranveer Singh told the Karnataka High Court he will file an affidavit apologizing. He also said he would visit Chamundi Hill as part of corrective steps.

Court hearing details

A single-judge bench led by Justice M. Nagaprasanna heard the plea on Tuesday. The actor sought to quash a complaint and an FIR connected to his remarks.

Allegations

The case stems from comments linked to Kantara Chapter 1. At last year’s Filmfare ceremony in Goa, he allegedly called ‘Chavundi Daiva’ a ghost. A lawyer lodged the complaint, saying his religious sentiments were hurt.

Apology plan

Senior advocate Sajan Poovayya appeared for the actor. He told the court they will file an affidavit and visit Chamundi Hill. The lawyers described the move as a step to address the mimicry controversy tied to Kantara and to apologize publicly.

Reactions from court and complainant

The bench described the remarks as inappropriate and stressed the duty of public figures. It said remorse and corrective action are necessary because actors influence many people. Counsel for the complainant, C G Malayali, called the apology insincere and urged an in-person, oral apology at the temple.

Next steps

The court indicated that an apology and remedial measures could resolve the dispute. The matter was adjourned for further hearing to April 10.
