Network Rail has announced a temporary closure of a critical train corridor, affecting services between two key cities. From Friday, April 3 to Monday, April 6, essential maintenance work will disrupt rail services due to repairs in the Eastleigh area. This vital route sees approximately 3,500 trains per week.
Maintenance Schedule
The maintenance will focus on the railway line connecting Winchester and St Denys. Engineers will perform crucial tasks that include:
- Maintenance of switches and crossings
- Tamping to adjust track alignment
- Stoneblowing to stabilize ballast
These processes are essential for maintaining a safe and reliable rail service.
Impact on Train Services
Due to the maintenance, there will be changes to train services:
- Trains from London Waterloo to Weymouth will be rerouted via Guildford and Havant.
- Services between London Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour will terminate at Winchester.
- Inaccessible stations for Salisbury to Southampton service via Eastleigh.
Rail replacement bus services will operate during the closure to accommodate passengers.

Replacement buses will offer several options:
- An hourly express bus will link Winchester and Southampton Central, stopping at Southampton Airport Parkway.
- A local service will operate hourly through Shawford and Eastleigh.
- Additional connections will be provided between Romsey station and Southampton Central, as well as between Winchester and Fareham.
