BYD Unveils World’s Most Powerful 1,500-kW EV Charger, Targets 20,000 Stations

BYD has launched the world’s most powerful 1,500-kW electric vehicle (EV) charger, marking a breakthrough in charging infrastructure. The announcement was made alongside the introduction of the company’s second-generation blade battery.

Overview of the New Charger

This advanced supercharger delivers a significant power output, increasing efficiency by 50% compared to its predecessor launched in March 2025. Each charging stall features two guns and a super-fast discharging energy storage system, ensuring speedy charging even when two vehicles are powered simultaneously.

Charging Capacity and Design Innovations

  • Each charger can handle 50 vehicles per day.
  • One charging gun can deliver 2,000 kWh of electricity daily, assuming each vehicle uses 40 kWh.
  • The T-shaped pile design keeps charging guns and cables suspended, preventing tangling.
  • Zero-gravity charging guns allow for single-handed operation.
  • The sliding-rail mechanism accommodates varying vehicle charging port locations seamlessly.

Expansion Plans and Strategies

BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu unveiled the ambitious “Flash-charging China” strategy. The company intends to establish 20,000 flash-charging stations in China by the end of this year. Currently, 4,239 stations have been completed as of early March.

Station Breakdown

  • 18,000 stations will be developed in cooperation with charging network operators, minimizing land and grid capacity requirements.
  • 2,000 highway charging stations will be spaced roughly every 100 kilometers.
  • The first batch of 1,000 highway stations is expected to be operational ahead of the May Day holiday.

Global Reach and Future Goals

By the end of 2026, BYD aims to expand its flash-charging network to international markets, realizing its “Flash-charging Planet” vision. This expansion will enhance the availability of EV charging solutions worldwide.

Vehicle Incentives and Community Engagement

Every vehicle equipped with the new second-generation blade battery will enjoy one year of free supercharging from the delivery date. After this complimentary period, the charging fees will be aligned with industry standards.

BYD has also initiated a “wish list” program. If a group of four nearby EV owners request a charger, BYD will assess the location and potentially install a station within a week if conditions allow.

Significantly, BYD’s charging stations will be accessible to electric vehicles from other manufacturers, although they may not receive the full charging speed available to BYD vehicles.

With these initiatives, BYD continues to position itself as a leader in the electric vehicle charging sector, enhancing convenience and accessibility for EV users globally.
