MediaTek Unveils AI Glasses, Demonstrates Starlink Emergency Alerts at MWC 2026

MediaTek and Starlink Partnership
On Tuesday, MediaTek announced its collaboration with Starlink Mobile to enhance emergency communication. This partnership enables wireless emergency alert messages via satellite.
- Over 4.4 million users have accessed Starlink Mobile during emergencies.
- Emergency alerts currently supported in Canada, Japan, and the US.
The Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) framework, along with the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) and the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System (ETWS), is now available for smartphones equipped with MediaTek technology.
Technical Features
During MWC 2026, MediaTek demonstrated this satellite communication feature using its MediaTek M90 modem. This modem supports Sub-6GHz connectivity.
This technology ensures that users can receive vital alerts even outside traditional telecom coverage areas.
Innovative AI Glasses
In addition to emergency communications, MediaTek introduced its ‘Omni Glasses,’ a privacy-focused wearables prototype. These glasses pair with the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, allowing some functionalities to work without network access.
