LA Kings Reveal New Coaching Changes
The LA Kings have made significant changes to their coaching staff. Jim Hiller has been relieved of his coaching duties. D.J. Smith is now appointed as the interim head coach for the remainder of the current season.
New Leadership for the LA Kings
Ken Holland, Vice President and General Manager of the Kings, announced these changes. Alongside Smith, Matt Greene, the team’s player development coach, will serve as an assistant coach.

Holland expressed gratitude towards Hiller for his professionalism and commitment. He noted the importance of changing leadership to better position the team for success.
“These decisions are never made lightly,” Holland stated. “However, we believe it’s essential for our group’s potential and competitiveness.”
D.J. Smith’s Coaching Background
D.J. Smith, now 48, has been with the Kings organization as the Associate Coach for two full seasons. He joined on February 5, 2024, after a tenure as head coach of the Ottawa Senators that lasted five seasons.

- Windsor Spitfires (2005-2012)

Achievements in Junior Hockey
During his time with the Windsor Spitfires, Smith helped the team to secure back-to-back championships. They won the J. Ross Robertson Cups in 2009 and 2010. The Spitfires were also recognized as the best team in the Canadian Hockey League during those years.
Upcoming Media Availability
Holland will address the media on March 1 at 11:00 AM. The press conference will take place at the Toyota Sports Performance Center in El Segundo, California, prior to the team’s scheduled practice.
