Champions League Semi-Final Dates Officially Announced
Arsenal have reached consecutive Champions League semi-finals for the first time in their history. They progressed after defeating Sporting CP 1-0 on aggregate.
Opponents confirmed
They will face Atlético Madrid in the last four of the competition. Atlético eliminated Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate in their quarter-final.
Earlier season meeting
The clubs met in October for the first time. A brace from Viktor Gyokeres, plus goals from Gabriel and Gabriel Martinelli, produced a 4-0 victory.
Atlético’s route to the semis
Atlético then won their next three matches to finish 14th in the table. They met Club Brugge in a play-off and advanced 7-4 after two legs.
They beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 at home during the next tie. That matchup ended 7-5 on aggregate in Atlético’s favour.
Barcelona tie and milestone
Atlético won 2-0 at the Nou Camp in their quarter-final first leg. A 2-1 defeat in the second leg still sent them through to the semis.
This marks Atlético’s first Champions League semi-final appearance since the 2016/17 season.
Semi-final schedule
Champions League Semi-Final Dates Officially Announced with fixtures set across two legs. The first leg takes place at the Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday, April 29.
The return leg will be at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, May 5. Both matches kick off at 8pm UK time.
