Flyers hold off Bruins to end eight-game point streak
The Philadelphia Flyers snapped the bruins' eight-game point streak with a 3-1 win at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Saturday, a result driven by Dan Vladar's 26 saves and goals from Travis Konecny, Jamie Drysdale and Sean Couturier.
Vladar turns aside 26 shots, including a second-period stand
Goalie Dan Vladar finished with 26 saves, 16 of them in the second period, and was pivotal as Philadelphia held Boston to a single goal. Vladar made seven saves during two Bruins power plays in the second, including two signature stops on Morgan Geekie: with 15: 00 left in the period he got his right pad on a slot shot, and with 4: 17 remaining he snapped his pads closed on a rebound from the bottom of the left face-off circle. Vladar also stopped Sean Kuraly on a breakaway with 5: 43 left in the period.
Offense: Konecny, Drysdale each with a goal and an assist
Travis Konecny and Jamie Drysdale each recorded a goal and an assist in the 3-1 victory. Christian Dvorak set up the opening goal when he dumped the puck in from the left boards, the puck took an awkward bounce and Dvorak backhanded it into the crease; Konecny tapped it in at 3: 41 of the third period. Drysdale pushed the lead to 2-0 with a shot from the left hash marks at 11: 55 of the third. Sean Couturier also scored, and Christian Dvorak finished with two assists as Philadelphia improved its record to 27-21-11 and posted consecutive wins for the first time since Jan. 3-6.
Bruins chances, overturned goal and Swayman's return
Boston managed a goal from Charlie McAvoy but otherwise struggled to finish. The Bruins, 33-21-5, had been 5-0-3 in their previous eight games before the loss. Boston appeared to notch the game's first goal 1: 05 into the third on Hampus Lindholm's shot from the right point, but the referees immediately waved it off for goaltender interference. Jeremy Swayman made 14 saves in his first game since helping the United States win a gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026; on the sequence that produced the Flyers' opening goal Swayman said, "It hit a stanchion, and then as soon as I went to swipe it, it popped over my stick. It's one of those things that happens in hockey all the time. Not the right game to happen [in]. "
Bruins power plays couldn't break through
Boston had multiple power-play chances in the second period but came up empty against Vladar, who repeatedly denied Grade-A opportunities. Bruins coach Marco Sturm said, "[Vladar] played really good, he kind of made those saves he needed to. We just didn't do enough of a good job being around him or being front of him. " Morgan Geekie reflected on the night, calling it "just one of those nights" and crediting the Flyers' goalie for several big saves.
