Bridgerton Season 4 Complete Guide: Benedict & Sophie's Ending, Wedding, New Whistledown, and What's Next
Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2 dropped on Netflix Wednesday, February 26, 2026 at 3:00 AM ET — and the fandom has not stopped talking since. Here is everything you need to know about the ending, the post-credits wedding, Sophie's pregnancy rumors, Benedict's bisexuality reveal, the new Lady Whistledown mystery, and what comes next in Season 5.
Is Sophie Pregnant in Bridgerton Season 4? No — Here Is What Actually Happened
Sophie is not pregnant in Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2, but the series does toy with the idea that she could be. Sophie crossing off days in her diary brought a lot of suspense to her and Benedict's love story — and was clearly designed to make audiences think a pregnancy twist was coming. It was a red herring. Sophie and Benedict end the season married, with their wedding placed as a special treat at the end of Episode 8.
Benedict and Sophie's Ending: Queen Charlotte, Jail, and the Royal Lie
After Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1 left off with an impossible ask from Benedict to Sophie as he asked her to be his mistress, Part 2 saw things get much more complicated as they thwarted attempts from society — as well as Araminta — to keep them apart. Araminta's pursuit lands Sophie in jail by the finale, though Benedict, fresh off of realizing Sophie is his Lady in Silver, and Lady Bridgerton come to her rescue.
The Bridgertons uncover the embezzlement of Sophie's dowry, and the showrunners opted for a blackmail-fueled "royal lie" to get Queen Charlotte's blessing, rebranding Sophie as a long-lost Penwood relative. Araminta knows it is mutually assured destruction — if she exposes Sophie, Araminta will be exposed for embezzlement and could be put away for embezzling Sophie's dowry.
The Post-Credits Wedding You Almost Missed
After Sophie and Benedict share a kiss in the finale — in the very spot they once embraced with their faces hidden behind masks — Lady Whistledown effectively signs off. "Dear reader, we are going to have so much fun," Julie Andrews narrates. Then the credits begin to roll — without any nuptials in sight. If you stick around, however, the credits come to a close as wedding bells begin to ring, and Season 4 ends the way we knew it should: Sophie and Benedict say "I do" at the altar.
Showrunner Jess Brownell explained the decision: "That was originally meant to come up immediately after the rest of action finishes, but once we got into the edit, Shonda and I were like, 'Woof!'" — leading them to place it after the credits as a reward for patient viewers.
Benedict Comes Out as Bisexual in a Greenhouse Scene
It was really important for the showrunners that Benedict and Sophie know each other fully. His queerness is a part of who he is, even if he is ending up with Sophie, and for him to put that out there — and for her to acknowledge it, and more than accept it, to love about him that he is someone who is not bogged down — was essential.
Who Is the New Lady Whistledown? The Season 5 Mystery Begins
Penelope puts down her Lady Whistledown pen for good in Season 4 — but there is a new mystery gossip writer in town. The existence of a new Lady Whistledown is revealed, but we do not know who she is. Eloise seems to be the easiest answer and the show is pointing at her. At the same time, Cressida has made a return to London, and Eloise finally manages to apologize to her.
It is very possible that it will be multiple seasons — and therefore several real-life years — before viewers learn who this new Whistledown really is.
What Is Bridgerton Season 5 About? Eloise Is Next
With Sophie and Benedict's season having come to a close, the franchise will shift its focus to the next Bridgerton sibling for Season 5, and all signs currently point to Eloise. Throughout Season 4, Eloise seemed to feel increasingly lonely and excluded.
Kate Sharma Bridgerton asked whose wedding they would be attending next, looking at both Eloise and Francesca. "I have had my great love. One time is enough," Francesca told the group. Eloise said she loves a wedding but simply as an attendee. The post-credits exchange all but confirms Eloise's Season 5 storyline is imminent — and the new Lady Whistledown mystery will run right alongside it.
