Bobby Brown: bobby brown, 'The Wire' actor dies in barn fire

bobby brown, the 62-year-old actor best known for his role on the HBO series The Wire, died after becoming trapped in a barn fire at his Maryland home. Authorities say the blaze began while he was trying to jump-start a vehicle and he was later found inside and pronounced dead at the scene.

Bobby Brown's death details

Brown was at his residence in the St Mary’s county community of Chaptico at about 10pm on 24 February when he went into a barn to try to jump-start a car. The attempt evidently ignited the barn and Brown asked his wife for a fire extinguisher. By the time she returned with the extinguisher the blaze had quickly spread throughout the barn.

911 audio and first response

Dispatch recordings captured Brown’s wife, Arlene, calling after realizing her husband was trapped and that the barn was on fire. Arlene told authorities that she had not made contact with Brown and that he had been trying to start up his own Cadillac before the fire broke out. She ultimately hung up the phone while officials were attempting to get in contact with her. First responders arrived to find the barn mostly engulfed and a subject trapped inside. A firefighter later described the building as fully engulfed, and another official said, "We do have exposure. I see his two vehicles. "

Medical examiner ruling

The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has said Brown’s death resulted from diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation. The manner of death was determined to be an accident. Fire investigators and the state fire marshal’s office were cited in statements that the family summoned firefighters and told them Brown was trapped in the burning barn; crews subsequently found him inside and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Family reaction and faith

Brown’s daughter, Reina Samara Brown, called losing her father "devastating" and asked for prayers for the family. She wrote, "It hurts in a way that sits heavy in my chest and does not move. I would give anything to hear his voice again, to see him one more time, and to have one more conversation. " She urged people to "sit with" their parents and "ask the extra question, " writing, "Stay a little longer. Our schedules feel so important until something like this happens and you realize what actually matters. "

Reina described the moment she learned of the accident, saying she had been sound asleep and had gone to bed about two hours earlier. She said a younger sister was "freaking out" and that she went outside, put both feet on the front walk in the cold, and stood in her bare feet in a nightgown to try to ground herself and make sure the news was real. Reina called the loss "a huge loss" and said their shared faith as Jehovah's Witnesses was helping her; she also said her father had been an "amazing human being, " "a pillar in the community, " and would be missed by many. Brown’s daughter also told others that he was a devout Jehovah's Witness and that a funeral service was being planned.

Wife's injuries and family efforts

Brown’s wife burned her hands trying to reach him when the fire began and later was described as having suffered severe burns while attempting to save him. Family members and neighbors summoned firefighters to the home after the blaze began.

Brown grew up in Washington DC and was a champion amateur boxer before beginning an acting career with appearances in cop shows such as Homicide: Life on the Street and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
