Hillary Clinton deposition paused after leaked photo as Bill Clinton testifies in Epstein probe
hillary clinton’s closed-door deposition in the House Oversight Committee was paused after a Republican lawmaker shared a photo of the proceeding with an outside influencer, and the following day former President Bill Clinton told committee members he "saw nothing" and "did nothing wrong" in questioning about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
Hillary Clinton deposition paused over leaked photo
The committee halted Hillary Clinton’s testimony after Rep. Lauren Boebert sent a photograph from the closed-door session to a conservative influencer, who then posted the image online,. Benny Johnson posted the photo and said Boebert had provided it; the committee’s rules do not allow outside press or photographers to take pictures of the proceedings.
Members of the panel are recording the deposition on video, but the committee chair has said the video will be released only after Clinton’s attorneys review it. As she left the room, Boebert appeared defiant, repeatedly saying "Why not?" when asked why she had shared the image, and sarcastically remarking that she admired Clinton’s blue suit and "wanted to show it to everyone. " The pause came as vehicles believed to be carrying Hillary Clinton arrived at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center on Feb. 26, 2026.
Bill Clinton tells committee he 'saw nothing' and 'did nothing wrong'
In a closed-door deposition the day after Hillary Clinton’s appearance, Bill Clinton told members of the Republican-led committee that "I saw nothing" and "did nothing wrong, " and criticized the panel for making his wife sit for a deposition. He opened his statement by saying that, "As someone who grew up in a home with domestic abuse, not only would I not have flown on his plane if I had any inkling of what he was doing—I would have turned him in myself and led the call for justice for his crimes. "
Bill Clinton acknowledged knowing and traveling with Epstein, but wrote that his wife had "nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein" and "no memory of even meeting him, " adding, "Whether you subpoena 10 people or 10, 000, including her was simply not right. " He closed his prepared remarks with, “Since I am under oath, I will not falsely state that I am looking forward to your questions. But I am ready to answer them to the best of my abilities, consistent with the facts as I know them: the legitimate, the logical and even the outlandish. " The former president repeatedly said during his deposition that he never visited Jeffrey Epstein’s island.
Details from the deposition and room accounts
The Clinton interview began around 11 a. m. ET in Chappaqua, New York. During the session, a person in the room said Bill Clinton told lawmakers he did not know the woman shown with him in a jacuzzi in the Justice Department’s released files and, when asked, said he did not have sex with her. About an hour into the deposition, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said he was "being very cooperative" and "answering all of our questions. " Bill Clinton is the first sitting or former president to testify before members of Congress in more than 40 years.
Photos released in the probe and what they show
Files related to the Epstein probes that have been released to date include numerous pictures of Bill Clinton with Epstein and with Ghislaine Maxwell. In some images, Bill Clinton appears in a hot tub, is shown swimming in a pool with Maxwell and sitting at a table with a woman sitting on his leg. The pictures are undated and it is unclear where they were taken; none of the released images suggests any wrongdoing.
Committee reactions and next steps
Committee Chair James Comer called the depositions "a historical day for the United States Congress, " saying "No one is accusing anyone of any wrongdoing, but I think the American people have a lot of questions and our House Oversight Committee is committed to getting answers. " Comer said he expected the former president’s deposition to take "even longer" than his wife’s testimony and that he expects the video and transcript of Hillary Clinton’s deposition to be made public sometime Friday or Saturday, with the Bill Clinton video and transcript released as "quickly" as possible. Rep. Robert Garcia, the committee’s top Democrat, said the panel has "real questions that deserve serious answers" and reiterated calls to question President Donald Trump as well.
The committee’s stated next milestone is the release of the Hillary Clinton deposition video and transcript sometime Friday or Saturday, followed by the Bill Clinton video and transcript to be released as quickly as the committee says it can make them available.
