Prime Video has released a first look at its live-action God of War series, and ryan hurst appears as the franchise’s battered god of war. The image arrives as production is underway in Vancouver, offering the first glimpse of the cast and the show’s visual approach.
Ryan Hurst as Kratos: an early glimpse from Vancouver
The single image on hand presents Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as his young son Atreus, with production already in progress in Vancouver and cameras rolling. In that shot Hurst is shown daubed in red-and-white from head to toe, a look meant to evoke the character’s iconic visage. The image is the first public glimpse of the show’s Kratos and marks the start of filming in the city.
Callum Vinson, the Talon Bow and the father‑son story
Callum Vinson appears as Atreus armed with his Talon Bow and wearing Atreus’s attire. The series will take up the story established in the two most recent God of War games, in which Kratos must raise his ten-year-old son Atreus while battling gods of the Norse pantheon. Per the project’s logline, father and son embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye; through their adventures Kratos tries to teach Atreus to be a better god while Atreus tries to teach Kratos how to be a better human.
Supporting cast named: Heimdall, Thor, Odin, Mimir, Brok, Sindri and Baldur
The supporting ensemble includes Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor and Mandy Patinkin as Odin. Teresa Palmer is attached as Thor’s wife Phoebe/Sif. Alastair Duncan is cast as Mimir. Brothers Brok and Sindri will be played by Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka, respectively, and Ed Skrein is set as Baldur. Those casting details round out the Norse figures who will populate Kratos and Atreus’s journey.
Two seasons ordered; Ronald D. Moore leading the creative team
The series has received a two-season order and Ronald D. Moore is credited as writer, executive producer and showrunner on God of War under his Tall Ship Productions banner. Frederick E. O. Toye will direct the first two episodes. Maril Davis of Tall Ship also executive produces alongside Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia and Ben McGinnis serve as co-executive producers.
Production partnerships and the studio setup
The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Tall Ship is under an overall deal at Sony TV. Creators have said the show will adapt Santa Monica Studio’s two Norse-flavored God of War games — the 2018 title and the 2022 God of War Ragnarök — across its two-season order, following the arc that sends Kratos and Atreus to scatter Faye’s ashes and reckon with both gods and parenthood.
Fans now have an early look at ryan hurst’s Kratos as production proceeds in Vancouver; with the cast assembled and cameras rolling, the series is moving from development into principal photography.
