Ron Duguay's family makes heartbreaking plea as he battles stage 4 cancer
ron duguay, 68, the former New York Rangers forward, is battling stage 4 colon cancer and his family has launched a public fundraising campaign as he pursues additional, costly treatments.
Family asks for help while he fights rising cancer numbers
Duguay’s family created a GoFundMe to share details of his condition and to fund travel, treatments and exploratory options outside the United States after his cancer markers started to climb again; the family said the costs have become an overwhelming financial strain.
Ron Duguay's family plea and what they say
His daughters wrote on the campaign that "our dad has never been someone who asks for help, " and that after many family conversations they decided to set up the fundraiser because the disease had placed heavy physical and financial weight on him. Duguay, 68, said, "I find it extremely hard asking for funds for all these costs I’m going through, " and called the treatment costs "so freaking costly. "
Travel and treatment: flying to Orange County every two weeks
The family said earlier care in Florida nearly cost Duguay his life, which prompted them to bring him to Orange County to receive treatment closer to where his daughters live; he now flies from Florida to Orange County every two weeks for ongoing care. While he continues with current therapies, his family is exploring additional treatment options outside the United States in hopes of giving him the best possible chance.
Surgeries, mixes of therapies and a long fight
Duguay has been fighting the disease for more than a year and lost his appendix and gallbladder amid treatment. His daughters and one daughter, Shay, shared posts saying he is "doing everything he possibly can, " listing treatments and therapies he has tried or is undergoing: Living Antioxidant Water, blood ozone therapy, IV vitamin drips, ivermectin, methylene blue and other holistic approaches, alongside City of Hope’s chemotherapy protocol and major surgery on both his liver and colon.
Career highlights and the immediate consequence for his work
The family noted that because of his cancer, Duguay hasn’t been able to work the way he normally would. Duguay helped the Rangers reach the 1979 Stanley Cup Final after being selected with the No. 13 pick in the 1977 NHL Draft and later worked as an analyst for MSG Network; those career notes underline the change in his daily life as he focuses on treatment at age 68.
Fundraiser totals differ in reports
The campaign has drawn public donations, though reported totals differ: one report listed more than $31, 000 raised as of Wednesday morning, while another put the total at over $66, 000 as of Wednesday. The family said the funds are earmarked for travel, medical care, holistic therapies, supplements and possible alternative treatments outside the U. S.
With his cancer numbers rising and a mix of Western and alternative approaches underway, the confirmed next steps are clear: Duguay will continue his current treatments and keep flying from Florida to Orange County every two weeks, while his family pursues additional treatment options abroad and seeks financial support through the GoFundMe campaign.
