Season 2 Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Will Follow the Fallout of Egg’s Choice
The forthcoming season 2 knight of the seven kingdoms is already in production, and showrunners say it will pick up directly from the finale’s cliffhanger as filming — which began in Belfast in December 2025 — continues into the new year.
Season 2 Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms filming in Belfast
HBO renewed the series for a second season in November 2025, and executives say production moved quickly: shooting began in Belfast in December 2025 and carried on into the new year. HBO President Casey Bloys said, "They’re producing Season 2 right now, Season 3 beyond that, " and added, "This will be annual, " signaling a faster return cadence than some other premium dramas.
Showrunner teases a season that "deal[s] with the repercussions"
Showrunner Ira Parker has said Season 2 will "deal with the repercussions" of Prince Aegon "Egg" Targaryen’s choice to defy his father and become Ser Duncan the Tall’s squire, a plot thread that reached a boiling point in the Season 1 finale on Feb. 22. Parker framed the decision as central to the next episodes, and Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays Egg, explained Egg "does it because he really, really wants to be with Dunk, " adding that Egg became "this happy squire who has someone he can trust. "
Where the story will go and who joins the road
Director Sarah Adina Smith teased that the second season will have the "unlikely duo back on the road and off to new adventures, " while Peter Claffey, who plays Dunk, said his character is struggling after the trial by seven: "He's half-dead, and I'm pretty sure he wishes he was dead. He can't fathom how he's alive and so many brave, great people died for him. " Sources within the production say Season 2 will move into material from the Dunk and Egg novellas, with The Sworn Sword cited as a likely touchstone for new stories and characters.
Long-term plans and the next milestone
Parker has sketched an expansive plan for the series that could follow Dunk and Egg through multiple eras of their lives, and he has said George R. R. Martin shared additional ideas beyond the three original novellas—Parker described receiving "10-12 more ideas"—giving the creative team a roadmap for future seasons. The immediate, confirmed milestone is clear: the new episodes are expected to debut in early 2027, with production and post-production work ongoing after the December 2025 start in Belfast.
