Bbc Casualty pulled from screens tonight for Six Nations rugby clash
casualty will not air tonight (21 February) after One reshuffled its Saturday schedule to show the Six Nations match between Wales and Scotland; the medical drama returns next week with episode 7, 'Learning Curve'.
Casualty off air for Wales v Scotland match
The channel began rugby coverage at 4 p. m., with kick-off forty minutes later for the third round fixture at Principality Stadium. Gabby Logan and John Inverdale are on commentary for the match.
What’s replacing the show this Saturday
After the rugby broadcast, the evening schedule runs Gladiators at 7: 15 p. m., Michael McIntyre's Big Show an hour later at 8: 15 p. m., and the new drama The Walsh Sisters, based on Marian Keyes's novels, at 9: 15 p. m. ahead of the news.
Episode 7 'Learning Curve' returns with a CQC reinspection
Casualty returns on Saturday, 28 February, when episode 7 of the current boxset, 'Learning Curve', will air at 8: 30 p. m. on One and will be available to stream from 6 a. m. on iPlayer. The teaser for the episode reads: “The pressure is on for Flynn when the CQC make their return, but will a spiralling Matty and Kim get in the way?”
Staff and storylines under scrutiny in the next episode
Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) is preparing for another visit from the Care Quality Commission after Holby ED has faced scrutiny over several avoidable deaths and questionable workplace practices. Ceri earlier gave clinical lead Flynn 30 days to sort things before she would return for a reinspection that could decide the future of the department and the jobs of the staff.
Residents, mistakes and a testing reinspection
New resident Matty Linlaker (Aron Julius) previously reported the hospital to the CQC after his first shift; only newcomer Kim Chang (Jasmine Bayes) knows it was Matty who made the complaint. Plotlines named for the returning episode include Matty and Kim working together while the CQC observe. The pair treat a patient with a head injury and Matty is keen to perform a lumbar puncture while Flynn is occupied with the inspector. Kim, who is struggling with an eating disorder, jogs into work, makes herself sick and celebrates a notification that she has hit 500% of her daily movement goal; later her vision blurs while treating patients, and while reading procedure instructions on her phone she gives Matty the wrong orders.
Clashes on and off the ward
Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) and Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) are at loggerheads over PC Ashley Sullivan's (Hannah Traylen) wrongful arrest of Blake Gardner (David Ajayi). The pair argue about Jacob making a complaint against Ashley, stand-offish at first, then work together on a callout and begin to make amends; Teddy later tells Ashley Jacob will drop the complaint if she apologises.
Siobhan's case takes a concerning turn
Following her sexual assault, Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) suffers another setback when she is told the police have made an arrest after her attacker’s DNA was found on her uniform. DI Hughes later reports that the suspect, Chris, was a patient and Cam realises he asked Siobhan to treat him when he was in the ED, a detail that could undermine the evidence.
With Kim and Matty both under strain — Matty also reeling from learning that his mentor Dylan is his biological dad, a revelation Matty chose to handle by calling Dylan a “perfectly adequate mentor” and not telling his mum — the reinspection episode is set to put the department under renewed pressure.
Next confirmed: Casualty returns Saturday, 28 February at 8: 30 p. m. ET on One and will be available to stream from 6 a. m. ET on iPlayer.
