Toy Story trailer reunites Woody and Buzz in new look at sequel
A fresh trailer for the forthcoming toy story movie has arrived, reuniting Woody and Buzz with Jessie and the rest of the gang while introducing a frog-like smart tablet called Lilypad that challenges playtime once more.
Toy Story trailer reunites Woody and Buzz
The 2 1/2-minute trailer shows Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) greeting Woody (Tom Hanks) with the line "It's been too long cowboy, " then embracing a now slightly balding Woody, a moment that teases the pair's renewed relationship after Woody left the group at the end of Toy Story 4. Joan Cusack returns as Jessie, and Mr Potato Head is voiced by Jeff Bergman following the death of Don Rickles. The clip uses Randy Newman’s classic "You've Got a Friend in Me" and ends with the tagline "Times may change but friends are forever. "
New tech threat Lilypad and fresh cast additions
The trailer pits the toys against Lilypad, described in the footage as a frog-like tablet with "disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie, " and voiced by Greta Lee. Forky (Tony Hale) mocks Woody's appearance in a line used in the trailer—"She thinks you're old because you're bald, Woody"—while Lilypad asks, "What are you, some sort of old man toy?" New cast members include Craig Robinson as Atlas, a cheerful GPS hippo toy, Shelby Rabara as the toy camera Snappy, Conan O'Brien as Smarty Pants, and Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, expanding the ensemble that already features Keanu Reeves’ Duke Caboom and John Ratzenberger’s Hamm.
Where the story picks up and who returns
The trailer establishes that the film follows the aftermath of Woody's decision in the previous movie to leave Bonnie and live off the grid with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), setting up a reunion as Woody rejoins his original toy family. Returning voice actors named in the trailer include Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Tony Hale, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, Wallace Shawn as Rex, and Anna Vocino as Mrs Potato Head, alongside character callbacks like Forky and Hamm that tie back to earlier entries in the franchise.
Director Andrew Stanton and co‑director Kenna Harris lead the production, and Randy Newman will supply another original score for the film, details that appear in the promotional material alongside the new footage. The trailer also highlights a contemporary theme: toys competing with modern technology for a child's attention, embodied by Lilypad's high-tech presence.
The trailer was released late on Thursday and provides a compact look at the film's tone, balancing reunion scenes, comic banter, and the new antagonist. Buzz delivers a line in the trailer that sums their mission: "Our mission on this planet, is to make a child happy, " framing the stakes that the toys face against Lilypad and shifting play patterns.
Toy Story 5 opens in cinemas on June 19, and the trailer's release confirms the casting, music, and a story direction that centers on reconnection and technological rivalry. Audiences will see the film when it arrives on June 19, with the score by Randy Newman and the creative team led by Andrew Stanton expected to be present in promotional appearances ahead of the release.
