Alysa Liu Teeth: Platinum stripes and a gold medal in Milan

Alysa Liu Teeth — Alysa Liu, 20, won the gold medal in women’s figure skating singles at the 2026 Winter Olympics at the Milano Ice Skating Arena on Thursday, Feb. 19, and she noted her gold dress matched the platinum stripes in her dark hair, the stylist who worked on her look said.

Alysa Liu Teeth and the trademark stripes

Kelsey Miller, 39, the St. Louis hairstylist who added platinum stripes during the U. S. Championships in St. Louis in January, said she watched Liu’s Olympic victory on a phone. Miller walked through the work done in St. Louis — and later in Milan — that left Liu’s hair with the bright, milky halos visible at the Milano Ice Skating Arena on Feb. 19.

How the look was created in St. Louis and Milan

Miller said Liu visited her at the Thirteenth and Washington salon on Jan. 8 for a roughly five-hour appointment after Liu had dyed her own hair in 2023 and 2024. "Her top halo was brassy, so I went through and bumped the warmth out to make it more platinum, " Miller said, adding that she bleached and toned the hair to pull out warmer tones and make the highlights milky.

Touchups and a final Italian hand

A man who identified himself as Christian Broccoli at JennyBMilano in Milan said Liu received an Italian touchup before taking the ice at the Milano Ice Skating Arena, and that he was one of three brothers at the salon. Liu’s Instagram included a Jan. 9 photo with the handle "kelsey. styles. hair" and another caption that read "and styled @jennybmilano, " while one post carried the comment "someone said i look like king tut. "

Background that surfaced during a haircut

During the St. Louis appointment, Miller said she learned more about Liu’s background: that Liu’s father fled China after organizing protests and hunger strikes in 1989, that Liu has four siblings, and that she stopped skating for two years before making a comeback that culminated in the Olympic triumph on Feb. 19.

Miller said she stayed in touch after the Jan. 8 appointment and reached out to make sure Liu’s hair "was feeling good, if she needed anything, any service, a toner, a deep conditioning mask, " but that Liu declined further services. Liu did, however, seek touchup help during the Olympics in Milan and posted that the hair was styled at JennyBMilano — the last confirmed change to the look before she skated to gold at the Milano Ice Skating Arena.
