Roman Josi Leads Switzerland’s Men’s Hockey Team as Olympic Captain

Switzerland has officially named the leadership group for its men’s ice hockey team for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Roman Josi, a seasoned defenseman for the Nashville Predators, takes on the role of captain.

Switzerland’s Olympic Leadership Group

Alongside Josi, four alternate captains have been appointed:

  • Kevin Fiala (Los Angeles Kings)
  • Nico Hischier (New Jersey Devils)
  • Nino Niederreiter (Winnipeg Jets)
  • Andrea Glauser (Fribourg-Gotteron HC)

Josi brings immense experience to the team as he competes in his second Olympic Games. He previously participated in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Additionally, Josi has captained the Swiss team at the 2024 World Championship and has led the Predators for nine seasons. Currently, he has recorded 11 goals and 28 assists, totaling 39 points in 45 games this season, making him the all-time leading Swiss scorer in NHL history.

Captaincy Experience of Alternate Captains

Each alternate captain offers unique contributions to the team:

  • Kevin Fiala: Despite never being an alternate captain before, he represented Switzerland with an ‘A’ at the 2015 World Juniors. He has accumulated 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points in 56 games this season, ranking second in all-time Swiss scoring in the NHL.
  • Nico Hischier: Hischier has a strong leadership history, serving as captain during the 2022 and 2025 World Championships. He has recorded 19 goals and 23 assists, totaling 42 points in 57 games this season, placing him fourth for Swiss players in NHL scoring.
  • Nino Niederreiter: Competing in his second Olympics, like Josi, Niederreiter has captained Switzerland at the 2023 World Championship. He has eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 55 games this season, making him third in all-time scoring among Swiss NHL players.
  • Andrea Glauser: Glauser has previously worn the ‘C’ for Switzerland but has had limited opportunities at the senior level. This season, he has tallied two goals and ten assists for a total of 12 points in 28 games.
