Donald Tusk Visits Kyiv: Approaching Possible Peace
Donald Tusk, the former Prime Minister of Poland and current leader of the Civic Platform party, visited Kyiv to express solidarity with Ukraine amid ongoing conflict with Russia. His comments emphasize Poland’s commitment to aiding Ukraine, stating that assistance stems from both moral obligation and a shared historical experience.

During a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Tusk addressed the importance of continued support for Ukraine. He highlighted that Ukrainians should know they are not alone in their struggle. Tusk stated, “We support everything that is good, just, and true in the world.” He assured that Poland will not support any peace negotiations against Ukraine’s interests.
Military Assistance and Future Commitments
Tusk announced that the 47th aid package to Ukraine, valued at around 100 million PLN, primarily consists of 155mm ammunition, most of which has already been delivered. Additionally, preparations for the 48th aid package are underway, expected to be worth 200 million PLN, focusing on armored equipment for Ukrainian forces.

Supply of MiG Aircraft
Tusk also discussed the potential transfer of MiG fighter jets to Ukraine. The emphasis remains on enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, including the need for various missile types.
Collaboration on Defense Production
During the meeting, Tusk and Zelenskyy signed a letter of intent regarding defense production. Tusk emphasized the importance of mutual collaboration in producing arms and ammunition in both Poland and Ukraine. He expressed hope for overcoming barriers that have previously hindered technology exchanges.
Evaluating the Situation and Future Actions
Upon returning to Poland, Tusk plans to discuss defense strategies with military leaders and will update President Zelenskyy on the outcomes. President Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude for Polish support, which includes energy equipment like generators that are crucial for Ukrainian resilience.
Call for Strong European Sanctions
Zelenskyy underscored the necessity of robust sanctions against Russia, asserting that frozen assets should be used for Ukraine’s reconstruction. He stated, “We must end this war and secure guarantees of safety for Ukraine.”
