Recent Murders in Willowbrook
Since October, the Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators have reported three other murders of unhoused individuals along the Compton Creek, raising concerns about a possible connection. Those victims, all aged 52, include:
- Michelle Steele: Shot in the head on October 5; succumbed to her injuries a month later.

- Mauro Alfaro: Died of multiple injuries on January 26, shortly after Johnson’s death.
Investigation Details
Detectives have not confirmed any links between the cases but are actively exploring similarities in location or methods used. They are also examining potential connections among the victims. Johnson had mentioned to his son, Brenden, about witnessing violence at a nearby site prior to his death. He reported that someone had been severely beaten and found wrapped in a blanket in December.
Johnson had faced emotional challenges and had been unhoused for approximately six months, though he remained close to his family. His son described his father as someone who was wary about discussing his safety.
