UK Issues ‘Do Not Travel’ Warning After Multiple Train Incidents
Train operators across southeast England have issued a strong advisory against travel due to multiple railway incidents. This warning affects services from Southern, Thameslink, and Gatwick Express, all operated under the Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) franchise.
Travel Advisory Due to Train Incidents
Passengers are urged to postpone their journeys on Wednesday morning if possible. The call for caution comes after a train derailment occurred inside a depot in Selhurst, southeast London. Additionally, a fault with the signalling system between London Blackfriars and Norwood Junction has compounded travel issues.
Current Service Disruptions
Southern informed travelers that delays are expected. They advised checking train schedules before departure and accounting for an additional 60 minutes of travel time.
- Services suspended between London Bridge and East Grinstead.
- Trains not operating between Orpington and Luton.
- Routes from Brighton to Cambridge are also affected.
- Journeys from Bedford to Three Bridges are suspended.
- Limited services running between Rainham and Dartford.
- Trains from Welwyn Garden City to Sevenoaks altered to operate only between London Blackfriars and Sevenoaks.
- Services connecting Horsham to Peterborough may reroute via Selhurst.
Signalling Issues and Their Impact
National Rail Enquiries has indicated that the recent signalling fault has reduced the number of operational rail lines between Norwood Junction and London Blackfriars. The trains that can operate on the available lines must do so at reduced speeds, leading to further delays.
Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) represents the largest railway franchise in the UK, serving a significant volume of passengers. Approximately 18% of train journeys in the country are managed by GTR.
