Apex Legends Season 28: Legend Updates, Destructible Walls, Ranked Improvements

Apex Legends is set to release Season 28, titled “Breach,” on February 10 at 10 AM PT. This season brings an exciting focus on close-quarters combat with new features, including destructible environments and significant updates to Legends, Ranked play, weapons, and loot.

Destructible Environments

One of the most notable additions in this season is the Hardlight Mesh windows. These destructible structures can be found throughout the Outlands and provide new strategies for players. When intact, Hardlight Mesh allows visibility, but players cannot pass through or shoot from them.

  • Players can destroy Hardlight Mesh by dealing damage using explosives, snipers, shotguns, or melee attacks.
  • Destruction creates new entry points and sightlines for tactical advantages.
  • Controller Legends can repair or reinforce damaged Hardlight Mesh to enhance defensive positions during combat.

Lead Battle Royale Designer Eric Canavese explained that the goal is to reshape map strategies by enhancing offensive and defensive routes.

Legend Updates

Several Legends will receive enhancements to promote effective close-range gameplay.

  • Fuse: Gains the Knuckle Jumper upgrade for leaping over enemy defenses. His Ultimate now features flame deployment and recharges through explosive damage.
  • Bloodhound: Receives an improved Tactical scan and a shorter Ultimate cooldown. Scoring a knock during Beast of the Hunt will extend its duration.
  • Catalyst: Her Piercing Spikes can be thrown farther and trigger faster, with upgraded damage. The Dark Veil Ultimate can now be deployed horizontally.

Controller Legends will also have new interactions with Hardlight Mesh, enabling them to fortify broken structures.

Ranked Changes & Game Modes

Significant changes are coming to Ranked play this season. The Drop Zone mode has been removed in favor of a traditional drop ship. This decision aligns the Ranked experience with public matches, responding to player feedback regarding random loot distribution and ring pressure.

The Bot Royale mode has also been enhanced, accommodating up to five human squads matched with updated Apex Bots. XP caps and challenge progression restrictions have been lifted, enhancing the gameplay experience.

Weapon Meta Updates

The weapon lineup has seen adjustments, with several shotgun hop-ups returning:

  • Dual Shell for the Mastiff
  • Disruptor Rounds for the Peacekeeper
  • Double Tap for the EVA-8

Conversely, Marksman weapons like the Bocek, Triple Take, and 30-30 Repeater are being toned down, with reductions in fire rate and damage. The G7 Scout is now exclusive to the Care Package.

Loot Pool Changes

The loot pool has undergone a cleanup. Knockdown Shields are no longer present, with their strength tied to a player’s Legend Level. White backpacks will now be equipped from the start, eliminating unnecessary clutter during early gameplay.

7th Anniversary Celebration

In honor of the game’s seventh anniversary, players can unlock up to four Legends by completing weekly challenges. The unlock schedule is as follows:

  • Week 1: Valkyrie
  • Week 2: Revenant
  • Week 3: Conduit
  • Week 4: Sparrow

Additional rewards include community-created cosmetics, tactical skins, and a Mythic Peacekeeper through a milestone reward track.

Breach Battle Pass

The Battle Pass for Season 28 includes exclusive rewards:

  • Split 1 Premium: Legendary skins for Octane and Seer, a Legendary EVA-8 skin, 10 Exotic Shards, and a Reactive Bocek skin at Tier 60.
  • Split 1 Ultimate: All Premium rewards, 1,200 Crafting Metals, and 14 Apex Packs.
  • Split 1 Ultimate+: Ultimate+ skin variants for Octane and Seer, 10 bonus Battle Pass levels, and full Legend unlocks during Split 1.
