For context, the original Nintendo Switch had sold 14.86 million units within the same timeframe following its release in March 2017. The Switch 2 launched in June 2025 and thus outperformed its predecessor in the same span.

However, sales for the original Nintendo Switch are on the decline, with only 3.25 million units sold for the nine months ending December 31, 2025, reflecting a 66% drop year-on-year. Overall, the original Switch has sold a total of 155.37 million units worldwide and was enjoyed by 129 million players in 2025, slightly down from 130 million in 2024.

Software sales for the Nintendo Switch 2 also garnered attention, with total sales reaching 37.93 million. In comparison, the original Switch sold 108.93 million games, though that figure represents a 12.1% decline year-on-year.
