Nintendo Sales Surge 99.3% as Switch 2 Sells 17.37 Million Units

Nintendo’s most recent financial report showcases tremendous growth, driven largely by the strong performance of the Nintendo Switch 2. The company’s earnings from the first nine months of the 2025/26 fiscal year reveal significant increases across various metrics.

For the period ending December 31, 2025, Nintendo reported the following:

• Net Sales: ¥1.9 trillion ($12.3 billion), a surge of 99.3% compared to the previous year.
• Operating Profit: ¥300.4 billion ($1.9 billion), representing a 21.3% increase.
• Ordinary Profit: ¥445.8 billion ($2.9 billion), up 39.4% year-on-year.
• Net Profit: ¥358.8 billion ($2.3 billion), marking a 51.3% rise.

Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Performance

In terms of hardware, the Nintendo Switch 2 has achieved substantial sales figures, totaling 17.37 million units sold. Of this total, 7.01 million units were sold in the last quarter of 2025, making it the best quarter for any Nintendo console to date.

Comparison with Previous Models

For context, the original Nintendo Switch had sold 14.86 million units within the same timeframe following its release in March 2017. The Switch 2 launched in June 2025 and thus outperformed its predecessor in the same span.

However, sales for the original Nintendo Switch are on the decline, with only 3.25 million units sold for the nine months ending December 31, 2025, reflecting a 66% drop year-on-year. Overall, the original Switch has sold a total of 155.37 million units worldwide and was enjoyed by 129 million players in 2025, slightly down from 130 million in 2024.

Software Sales Insights

Software sales for the Nintendo Switch 2 also garnered attention, with total sales reaching 37.93 million. In comparison, the original Switch sold 108.93 million games, though that figure represents a 12.1% decline year-on-year. During the last quarter, the Nintendo Switch 2 sold 17.31 million games, with physical copies accounting for 58.7% of all sales.
