Pakistani Forces Eliminate 145 Militants in Intense Two-Day Battle

Pakistani security forces achieved a significant victory against insurgents in a recent two-day operation, resulting in the elimination of 145 militants. This intense battle unfolded over 40 hours in response to a series of coordinated attacks across Balochistan, which left almost 50 individuals dead.

Background of the Conflict

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province, has long been embroiled in a conflict driven by separatist movements. Insurgents in this resource-rich region, bordering Iran and Afghanistan, have increasingly targeted security forces, civilians, and infrastructure.

Details of the Attacks

On Saturday, attackers, posing as ordinary civilians, launched assault operations in various urban areas, including hospitals, schools, and markets. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a banned separatist group, claimed responsibility for these incidents, stating they had initiated a coordinated operation named Herof, or “black storm.” Pakistani Junior Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry noted that attackers used civilians as human shields during the assault.

Casualties and Military Response

Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sarfraz Bugti, reported that the militant attacks resulted in the deaths of 17 law enforcement personnel and 31 civilians. On the military side, 92 militants were reported killed on Saturday, while 41 fell on the previous day. This response marked one of the highest recorded totals of militants eliminated in a single operation in recent years.

Conduct of the Assaults

Officials revealed that the militant attacks occurred almost simultaneously across various districts, including Quetta, Gwadar, Mastung, and Noshki. Armed men targeted security installations, launched suicide bombings, and disrupted urban traffic, prompting an extensive counter-offensive by Pakistani security forces.

Militant Claims and Retaliation

The BLA claimed to have killed 84 security forces members and captured 18 others, though these figures remain unverified. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif reported that two incidents involved female attackers, highlighting a disturbing trend of targeting civilians and vulnerable communities.

International Responses

In the wake of these attacks, the U.S. expressed condemnation, calling the events acts of terrorist violence and reaffirming its support for Pakistan. The BLA is designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States. Tensions also rose as Pakistan’s military accused Indian-sponsored militants of involvement, a claim denied by India.

  • Total Militants Eliminated: 145
  • Civilians Killed: 31
  • Law Enforcement Killed: 17
  • Militants Killed on Saturday: 92
  • Militants Killed on Friday: 41

As the situation in Balochistan continues to evolve, security forces remain on high alert. The recent escalation underscores the ongoing challenges faced in this volatile region.
