Diablo Veterans Reveal Dark Fantasy RPG Darkhaven for PC Players
Moon Beast Productions, founded by veteran developers from the Diablo franchise, has unveiled a new title called Darkhaven. This upcoming dark fantasy isometric action RPG aims to return to the genre’s roots while offering innovative gameplay mechanics. Darkhaven will be available on PC through Steam, with a future Early Access launch planned along with a Kickstarter campaign.
Overview of Darkhaven
Set in the aftermath of a catastrophic civilization collapse, Darkhaven places players as heirs to the last remnants of power. They must navigate a world dominated by ancient ruins, dangerous creatures, and supernatural forces. As eldritch evil invades, players are challenged to restore the land.
Game Mechanics and Features
- Gameplay Style: Designed for solo play and cooperative adventures, Darkhaven will also feature player-versus-player realms.
- World Dynamics: The game features a procedurally generated and fully dynamic persistent world. Players can modify terrain and structures, such as digging, tunneling, or draining lakes to find hidden ruins.
- Environmental Effects: Changing seasons and weather impact combat and movement, while significant events create lasting changes to the landscape.
Combat in Darkhaven focuses on a blend of stat progression, strategic build choices, and player skill. Players will be able to execute a range of movements like jumping, climbing, and swimming, enhancing their engagement in battles.
Itemization and Progression Philosophy
Darkhaven’s approach to itemization pays homage to classic action RPGs like Diablo and Diablo II. The game prioritizes bold, expressive loot over the conventional incremental gains commonly found in modern titles. Developers emphasize that finding powerful items should inspire players, altering their strategies and play styles.
Developers’ Insights
Erich Schaefer, Moon Beast Productions’ co-founder, expressed, “We wanted Darkhaven to feel good to play. Movement enhances gameplay, allowing players to creatively engage with the environment.”
Peter Hu, another co-founder, added, “Great itemization is about possibility, aiming to provoke thoughtful strategy shifts on how players approach the game.”
Philip Shenk, CEO of Moon Beast Productions, remarked on their excitement to finally reveal Darkhaven. He noted that this project encapsulates their two decades of experience in the ARPG genre, enhanced by modern technology. The team aspires to create a memorable world influenced by players’ actions, detailing unique stories based on individual experiences.
