Metrolink Trams Halted Indefinitely, Commuters Advised of Disruptions
Tram services on the Metrolink Eccles line have been suspended indefinitely due to urgent repairs. This disruption has caused significant delays for commuters, particularly during the busy rush hour.
Details of the Disruption
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) announced that the suspension is a result of an overhead line fault located near Salford Quays. As a consequence, no trams are currently operating between the Eccles and Pomona stops. Simultaneously, tram services are limited to a route from Ashton-under-Lyne to Deansgate-Castlefield.
Impact on Commuters
The disruption commenced early Friday morning, affecting a considerable number of passengers. TfGM has deployed staff across the Metrolink network and at the impacted stops to assist travelers in reaching their destinations safely.
Alternative Travel Options
To mitigate the inconvenience, ticket acceptance has been arranged for local Bee Network buses. This allows commuters to use these alternative services while trams are out of operation.
Official Statements
Ian Davies, Interim Metrolink Network Director at TfGM, expressed apologies for the inconvenience faced by customers. He reassured passengers that engineering teams are on-site and addressing the problem promptly. He encouraged commuters to check travel updates and allow extra time for their journeys.
Current Status
- Trams suspended: Eccles to Pomona.
- Operational tram route: Ashton-under-Lyne to Deansgate-Castlefield.
- Ticket acceptance on Bee Network buses activated.
